Katella Avenue was walked up and down over this past weekend by people sporting badges that read "NAMM Show 10" - their prized pass into an industry-only event that is the year's highlight for many.
For another year the Anaheim Convention Center was home to the International Music Products Association's annual event, most often refered to as the NAMM Show, and hosted thousands of musicians of every possible genre as well as other folks involved in the music industry.
Wearing anything - from corporate suits to punk outfits - musicians and their respective support systems communed inside the center, where seemingly every instrument company was represented. It was an opportunity for artists from far away places to travel to our area and share with the local talent, and for all of them to see the new products available this year to refine their crafts.
As part of the four day convention, several concerts, performances and events were scheduled inside the center and in the nearby hotels, including the performance of a band made up by the winners of the NAMM 2010's YouTube contest, some of them fresh artists who had never even performed in public. The band was directed by percussionist Karl Perazzo who called the young performers "the music inspirators of the future." [Dee Dee Negron, from Pennsylvania, is featured in the video below.]
After a weekend of fun, the attendees said good bye to this year's convention, promising to return to Anaheim for NAMM 2011, already scheduled on January 13-16, 2011.
