The chandelier over the deluxe ballroom at Olivia’s in Burbank twirled last night as if inspired by the many dancers that filled the floor right under it. It was an evening full of dance steps - all in show of solidarity with Haiti.
The event included live music by a group of young and talented local musicians - Marco Antonio y la Esencia, as well as vocals by bachata singer Freddie Munoz. Four dance companies performed for the crowd – samba by Julie Simon and Tropicaileza, swing by Michael Corventino and Myriam Soavinzara, salsa by Ritmo and Magia Latina, and zouk by Mea-Lynn and Ryan Wong. The latter team’s performance was particularly touching as Mea-Lyann and Ryan, siblings, have their father in Haiti and lost a cousin and a friend to the earthquake.
The box placed to collect lightly worn shoes for Soles4Souls.org reportedly received 179 pairs of shoes, which will be sent to Haiti. Representatives of the Red Cross were present at the event to receive donations.
It was an enjoyable evening organized by Salsalegre.com and MikeChristina.com made that much more special by the goodwill of everyone in attendance.
