"I Look To You" Album Cover- Sony BMG
Long time Atlanta resident, Whitney Houston was added to the schedule of performers for the 37th annual American Music awards. The show airing tonight on ABC, has Houston joining Janet Jackson, Keith Urban, Carrie Underwood, Daughtry, Kelly Clarkson, Adam Lambert, Jay-Z, Jennifer Lopez, Alicia Keys and the Black Eyed Peas as performers on the telecast.
Houston's performance will mark the first time she's performed on the show in ten years. Houston will perform "I Didn't Know My Own Strength,". Houston's seventh studio album, "I Look to You," debuted at No. 1 in USA, Canada, Germany, Italy, Holland and Switzerland and marked the biggest first week sales of her career in USA and UK.
Not only performing, Houston will be given the "American Music Awards International Artist Award," an honor presented only to those special artists who have gone beyond the borders of their own country to be acknowledged for their superstar status around the globe. To receive the prestigious International Award, an artist must have achieved outstanding sales and airplay success in every corner of the world, and must be recognized all over the world as a true icon, both as an artist and a concert attraction. The Award is rare and has only been presented seven times in the 36-year history of the American Music Awards. Houston will be the eighth artist to win it, after Michael Jackson, Rod Stewart, Led Zeppelin, the Bee Gees, Aerosmith, Madonna and Beyonce.
The American Music Awards producer Larry Klein was quoted as saying, "We're honored to have Whitney Houston back on the AMA stage after ten years...She has won the most AMA's of any female artist in history and is without a doubt an international superstar, so it's only fitting we honor her with the International Artist Award this year at such an important time in her career."
Houston holds the all-time record for being the solo and female artist with the most wins at AMAs. She has been nominated 37 times and won 21 AMAs in her career. She also holds the record for the most AMAs won in a single year – once held by both Michael Jackson- for 1983's "Thriller" and Houston-for 1992's "The Bodyguard" soundtrack. With 170 million in worldwide sales, Houston is the only artist to chart seven consecutive #1 Billboard Hot 100 Hits and the only artist with seven consecutive multi-platinum albums.
Whitney Houston has upcoming apperances on the DWTS finale and overseas in Russia and Japan.

Whitney just KILLED it on the AMAs!!!
You go Whitney. I knew you still had it.
What a sad evening for Ms. Houston. Drugs have ravaged her voice. She can no longer sing.
The Truth doesn't know what they're talking about. Although Whitney's voice isn't as strong as it used to be she still sounds good and she did an excellent job. I'm pround of her. I guess the Truth didn't listen to the lyrics so my advise is to either listen to the words or google them, STOP HATIN AND GIVE HER PROPS for her accomplishments, alot of people in her situation never recover!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for a wonderful article. Whitney was magnificent at the AMAs, especially in contrast to the gimmick-heavy performances by so man other artists. She always keeps it real. (I linked to your article from my story about her.)
Sorry, I love Whitney, but she just can't sing anymore. And International Artist of the year award? She hasn't done anything. Her comeback is a joke.
whitney, was awsome, she killed it....what a comeback
Whitney is awesome all of you that have negative comments are so full of it... its true so many people never recover and look at Whitney, she is a knock out. You really gotta give her props for her performance, strength and courage. Whitney kicks ass!
