Somerville celebrates Fluff
Art: Somerville Arts Council
Although Fluff itself is little changed since it was first cooked up by Archibald Query of Union Square in 1917, the marshmallow cream continues to inspire. Somerville celebrates the sticky stuff in song, haiku, and numerous dessert creations at the fourth annual Fluff festival today in Union Square.
This year’s festival features that nutritionist’s nightmare the Fluffernutter: Fluff and peanut butter on Wonder Bread. Organizers promise an exploration of “the inherent dramatic tension between sweet Fluff, salty Peanut Butter, wondrous Bread and that jealous Jelly!”
Festivities include music, a G-rated performance by burlesquers Babes in Boinkland, and games link “Pin the F on Fluff Boy.&rdquo. Vendors such as locals Grand and Kickass Cupcakes will offer Fluff-inspired merch like t-shirts and soap, as well as various Fluff-based treats made. And the Fluff madness will continue at businesses around Union Square, where there are rumors of Fluff-inspired cocktails.
When and where: September 26 from 4 – 7 pm. Union Square Plaza, Somerville.
