They raised their banner on opening day. They got their gigantic, diamond-encrusted rings at yesterday's game. Yes, it's finally sunk in, here in Philadelphia: our fine city is home to the World Champions of Baseball. Natives have been wearing their Phillies gear with pride, ever since that fine day last fall when the team clinched its title. Even at Eagles and Flyers games, there seem to be more people wearing red than any other color. It feels good to have something to be proud of in Philly, so we won't let the next few months go to waste. Gloating will be our second favorite past time!
As a baseball fan, I'm always up for watching a game. And as a knitter, I love knitting in front of the TV, but I find that I'm more entertained by baseball games when I can watch them live, at the stadium. The dreams of all knitting (and crocheting) baseball fans come true each season, as a number of MLB teams welcome us for one game, making it acceptable to juggle a hot dog and needles, while cheering for your favorite club. April 29th will be the 3rd annual Sitch n'Pitch night at Citizen's Bank Park. The event is co-sponsored by The National NeedleArts Association. The first 1,000 ticket-buyers will get a cool tote bag with the Stitch n'Pitch logo on it and Project Linus, one of my favorite knitting charities, will be on-site to collect donated blankets for children in need. So come out to cheer on the champs and show off your latest project, or better yet, get some inspiration from all the knitting Phillies fans that will be there with you!
