The other day, I shared a list of great candy recipes for making your own Valentine chocolates.  Once you have whipped up a batch of your favorites, make a quick and easy box to put them in for gift-giving.

This tutorial uses a cigar box, but you can use any shallow box.  Try to find a sturdy box that can be used as a decorative storage container for years to come.

The project is very inexpensive.  This box happened to be the perfect size to top with a small paper doily, but any paper will work.  Use leftovers from scrapbooking projects, clippings of pretty images from magazines, wrapping paper, old Valentine cards, stickers, or anything else you can think of.

Inside the box, use small paper baking cups (mini cupcake liners) to hold individual candies.  Space them in the box as close together as possible.  If the box is deep enough, you could place a piece of cardboard over the boxed candies and add a second layer.

Click on the slideshow below for a complete tutorial for making this box!

Where to shop for this project:

  • Cigar box - Surroundings, Manistee, MI (a cigar and candle shop)
  • Valentine stickers - Dollar Tree
  • Paper doilies - Dollar Tree
  • Mod Podge - Hobby Lobby
  • Foam paint brush - Hobby Lobby
