Zumba news: New Nightclub Series, ‘Dance Party’ CD, ‘Zumba Gold Live It Up' set (Photos)

Zumba Fitness has been teaming up with big-name entertainers, including Paulina Rubio, Pitbull, Daddy Yankee and Vanilla Ice to create and perform music for the hugely popular dance fitness program. Its latest collaboration is with rapper/producer/DJ Lil Jon, who was on the “Today” show Wednesday morning with star Zumba instructor Gina Grant to launch the Zumba Nightclub Series and show off some new moves and a new song.

The inaugural tour kicks off April 9 in Boston, then travels to Pittsburgh, New York City, and Cincinnati (the Ohio shows are already sold out). Click here for the full list of dates and times.

What’s the difference between a regular Zumba class and the Nightclub Series? First off, the series takes place in actual nightclubs, and Lil Jon will be spinning Zumba favorites on the turntables. Then Zumba celebrity instructor Gina Grant will lead the master class.

Lil Jon also recorded a new single specifically for Zumba. "Work" will serve as the official theme song for the Nightclub Series tour with choreography that will soon be seen in Zumba classes worldwide. The track was just released for download on iTunes.

Zumba Gold DVD set for beginners, Baby Boomers

So if Zumba-ing in a nightclub isn’t yet your speed, you might be interested in the new Zumba Gold Live It Up DVD set.

Zumba Gold is anchored by Zumba creator Beto Perez and Joy Prouty, a former Radio City Rocketete who co-developed the Zumba Gold program with Perez and over-50 fitness expert Josie Gardiner.

We had an opportunity to try some Zumba Gold moves with Perez and Prouty during last summer’s Zumba Convention in Orlando, Fla. The moves are a little slower and less complex than traditional Zumba moves but still just as fun. It’s designed for older and less conditioned exercisers, but would also be a great workout for people who want a “light day” workout or are easing back into working out after an injury or illness.

The Zumba Gold Live It Up DVD set, which retails for $49.95, includes a pair of 1-pound maraca Zumba toning sticks and a Healthy Living Guide with program tips and nutrition information from “Today” show nutritionist Joy Bauer. You also get three DVDs:

STEP BY STEP DVD: Beto and Joy take you through each dance move, including salsa, merengue, flamenco and cumbia. A healthy living section on the video includes interviews with experts such as nutritionist Joy Bauer and Dr. Pam Peeke.

CARDIO DVD: The 45-minute cardio workout includes the dance steps that you learned in the Step By Step DVD and also includes a 7-minute warm-up and 8-minute cool-down.’

GOLD-TONING DVD: The 45-minute workout features strength training as well as cardio where you use the 1-pound Zumba toning sticks. If you want to progress, you can also purchase 2.5-pound Zumba Toning Sticks.
