Birthday girl Zsa Zsa Gabor turned 95 Monday. While the Hungarian-born actress lay bedridden at her LA mansion from brushes with death, her husband Frederic Prinz von Anhalt entertained guests and "celebrated his wife's life." Reactions from the party were mixed.
Elizabeth Taylor Died, but the World Still Has Zsa Zsa Gabor
Monday, 100 guests invited to the Bel-Air mansion the actress shares with her husband of 25-years, celebrated over champagne, hours d'oeuvres, music, and chocolate cake. However, missing was the guest of honor (shown here), according to ABC News.
Just steps away from the pomp and circumstance outside her bedroom, Gabor rested quietly in bed, where she's been confined since undergoing a series of operations last year.
Meanwhile, Frederic Prinz von Anhalt scurried around the room, played party host, and hoisted a large cake over his head in celebration of his wife's 95th birthday.
While she was not present, von Anhalt said the energy from others celebrating Zsa Zsa Gabor's birthday was felt by the actress. According to him, she is getting better.
After the death of her friend Elizabeth Taylor last year from congestive heart failure, Gabor’s health began to deteriorate. At the news of Taylor's passing, Gabor was hospitalized for high blood pressure, but soon released.
Over a short period, she would return to the hospital numerous times for blood clots, infections, a leg amputation, bleeding episodes, and a long list of other problems. Many times she thought her death would follow Liz Taylor's. However, she may not be well, but Gabor is still alive.
Happy Birthday Zsa Zsa Gabor: Was Husband's Party in Poor Taste?
While some thought the birthday party by her husband was a show of his love, others scoffed at the idea. They claimed he was using the birthday for his own publicity appetite.
One celebrity gossip site even referred to Zsa Zsa Gabor's husband as "Prince Von Ahole."
Gather News writer Kimberly Ripley said, "Some folks would sooner believe that he is far more likely to be sitting around hoping for the Hungarian socialite's demise.
Zsa Zsa Gabor on turning 95: "I love you and I hope to see you, but if you can't make it don't worry, I'm planning on celebrating more birthdays over the coming years with my true candle count, going all the way back to Woodrow Wilson's presidency, one of the few White House residents I never met." ~ Quote from birthday invitation.
In the general scheme of things, maybe people should look at it another way. After all, birthdays are a celebration of life. What are your thoughts?
