November 2, 2011 - After the unexpected news that Zooey Deschanel and Ben Gibbard had split up, the couple claim that the break up is "mutual and amicable."
Zooey and Ben didn't really show any signs of being in trouble during their two years of marriage.
But, claiming that there is no third party involved, a source close to the couple told Us Weekly that they though it for the best to separate at this time. Although the split was between them was nothing but "mutual and amicable."

However, the break-up definitely came as a big surprise to fans. As recently as July, Zooey told iVillage that being apart from her husband when working only brought them closer.
"When we see each other again, we have a lot of stuff to talk about," The New Girl actress added.
Meanwhile, the Death Cab for Cutie frontman recently spoke to New York Magazine and said of his wife that he "was just awestruck she was even talking" to him. Ben said after seeing her in a few of her movies, he thought "she was very beautiful."

During one interview, however, Zooey did say that being in a marriage still requires a commitment and a lot of work to keep it going.
"It's not like you get married and then all the work is done for you," Zooey explained, "You get married and you're still in a relationship and you're still doing your best to make it the best relationship you can."
