Zombies return to help teach Emergency Preparedness to Girl and Boy Scouts

Last year I had the crazy idea to teach Emergency Preparedness to the Girl Scouts in Orange using a zombie apocalypse theme. That crazy idea was a hit! If you follow me you read all about it. We had so much fun. This year we are going for the bigger and better apocalypse- A gigantic area called Green Zone 11, Boy and Girl Scouts both are invited and of course more zombies. The Orange County Red Cross is again helping us put on an apocalypse of epic proportions. Everyone is invited. It's not just for kids, or scouts. It will be open to the public for two weekends- with the first weekend being specially tailored for Scout troops to learn all aspects of Emergency Preparedness.

Here is some info on the fun at Green Zone 11: (Picture a Renaissance Fair or Civil War reenactement- but set in the future during a disaster) Green Zone 11 is a Post Apocalypse Township, Wasteland Trader’s Market and Carnival. It will be open two weekends Nov. 8th – Nov. 16th, 2014. You will find it at Crossroads Riverview Park - 14600 Baron Dr., Corona Ca. Tired of barely scratching out a living in the radioactive wastes? Of raiders and petty warlords stealing your food, your children? Of dodging slavers, cannibals and zombie hordes? Rally to Green Zone 11! Established to provide a haven for survivors and for the preservation of our common Human culture and knowledge in the face of extinction, Green Zone 11 is a secured and self sufficient community made up of the ragged survivors of the Apocalypse. Our global civilization has ended, join us now as we celebrate life and begin the great labor of building our future from the ashes.

Like I said earlier- the first weekend (Nov. 8 and 9, 2014) will have the extra added bonus of being an awesome Emergency Preparednss learning experience for Girl and Boy Scouts of all ages. In this fun and educational event we will give scouts and non-scouts ways to be prepared in a real-life emergency. Using the pop culture awesomeness of a zombie apocalypse, we present an immersive and interactive theatrical environment that portrays a community of human survivors in the aftermath of a catastrophe (in this case a zombie apocalypse). Themed vendors display their goods, survival gear, crafts of all kinds, games of skill like archery, interactive survival techniques, pre-industrial technologies, displays of sustainable living and alternate power generating technology demonstrations. Learn first aid and emergency preparedness in workshops presented by the Red Cross and other groups. Become a CDC Zombie Research Scientist to learn more about zombies, in the zombie awareness arena. Learn how to create survival gear by recycling, foraging for food in the wild and much more. For the Scouts there will be specific stations to stop at to earn your patch program: there is a special patch designed just for the event. For everyone else, friends or family it’s just a day of pure fun, walking through a world of adventure they will never forget. There are other activities coming up too- Monster Make-up demonstrations and maybe a spam cooking contest.

So come, Scouts, friends and family to experience street theater, music and dance, food and drink, survival demonstrations and zombies, all while surrounded by the weird and wonderful denizens of this Strange New World. Survivors, please come dressed appropriately for survival if you would like to- (picture Mad Max, Steam Punk or The Walking Dead). See if you can continue to survive or become infected. Welcome to Green Zone 11!

Scouts please sign up by August so we have enough people to run all the booths. We need troops to attend AND volunteers too. Camping is available for volunteers.
