September has proven a strong month for horror movie Blu-ray releases. So October will have a lot to live up to.
This week brings the release of two popular zombie films.
Brad Pitt's zombie apocalypse hit 'World War Z' debuts today, Sept. 17th. (For a full review of the film, click here for our original review).
Blu-ray special features according to NOLA.com include several featurettes, an uncut version of the movie, with seven minutes that weren't shown in theaters.
What is missing is the original version of the film which had a different third act. Given this troubled production's various reshoots, it would have been interesting to have seen the original vision that director Marc Forster had envisioned before screenwriter Damon Lindelof was brought in to doctor up the ending.
The other prominent zombie movie arriving on Blu-ray today, is 'Day of The Dead: Collector's Edition' which completed the original trilogy of George Romero's iconic zombie series (predated by 'Night Of The Living Dead' and 'Dawn Of The Dead.') According to the official product description on Amazon, special features include a New High-Definition Master, audio commentary wuth Romero, make-up artist Tom Savini, production designer Cletus Anderson and actress Lori Cardille
There's also a behind the scenes doc, an interview with actor Richard Liberty, photo galleries, theatrical trailers, TV spots and more.
While 'Day of The Dead' isn't as compelling as the two previous entries, it will please Romero completists and die-hard zombie fans.
And both releases will satiate horror fans until 'The Walking Dead' starts its new season.
Are you excited by either of these releases? What other horror blu-rays are you looking forward to picking up this year? Tell us in the comments.
