Halloween is just around the corner. What better way to prepare for the festivities than destroying hordes of the undead?
In "Gunner Z", from BitMonster Inc, the city of Metroit has been overrun with an army of zombies. This is due to experimentation while trying to build super endurance soldiers. Even worse, the zombies are being used by an opposing military as weapons.
The look of the game is superb. The graphics are well done. The zombies themselves look good, almost ghost-like. There are zombies that walk, crawl and slither, making the gameplay more interesting. The streets are seen through your night vision which not only looks awesome but adds a level of creepiness to the deserted city.
The missions, scattered throughout the city, are increasingly challenging. You will need to upgrade your weapons and armor. The zombies are not fought on foot. They are instead taken on in your armored trucks. You will start with a machine gun and rockets but as you progress and collect money you can buy new and more powerful weapons. There is also a built in warning system to alert you when a zombie gets too close to your vehicle.
The upgrades are very cool. You can not only upgrade your armor and firepower but you can drive vehicles with things such as cranes in order to blast those zombies that show up in the windows of buildings.
A nice element of the game is that zombies are not the only enemies you will have to face. Frequently throughout each mission you will come across some sort of zombie supporters. Theses people apparently think killing the undead is a crime and will attack from their pickup trucks to try and stop you. They are taken out easily enough.
You will also have to face gun turrets and drones. The gameplay is steady, making for a creepy game. The sound of the guns and explosions are well done but the real highlight is the moans and groans of the zombies themselves.
"Gunner Z" is an awesome game for the month of Halloween. Jump in your armored vehicle, grab your .50 cal and rid the city of the undead.
