If you saw last year's Zombieland, then you're already familiar with the jaw-droppingly awesome cameo that Bill Murray had in that film. The movie-- a horror/comedy set in a world beset by a zombie apocalypse-- was one of the surprise hits of last year, and since then there's been a steady stream of gossip about possibilities for a sequel. From the sound of things, though, that steady stream is about to turn into a lazy river of information as Zombieland 2 gets closer to going in front of cameras. Wanna know who's up for the cameo this time around? Read on, my gentle Examiner readers...
Zombieland was so much better than anyone expected it to be for many reasons, but chief among them was the show-stopping cameo by Bill Murray midway through Ruben Fleischer's film. Murray-- as you surely know if you've seen Zombieland-- played himself in the film, appearing in his old Ghostbusters suit and meeting a grisly end at the (nervous) hands of Jessie Eisenberg. Obviously, the creative team putting Zombieland 2 together wants to top Murray's cameo, and it sounds like they're taking steps to make sure that happens.
According to a report on SlashFilm, both Harrison Ford and Anthony Hopkins are being sought for a similar, mid-film cameo. Here's what they have to say about Zombieland 2's "surprise" guest-star:
Bloody Disgusting (is) reporting that names like Harrison Ford and Anthony Hopkins are being thrown around for the cameo. (Bloody Disgusting) also states that the film calls for “a lead villain with comedic roots” and that Woody Harrelson’s character Tallahassee will “find himself going head-to-head with a ‘hunky rival.’”
For one thing, Harrison Ford could really work some magic on his flagging popularity with a Zombieland 2 cameo. The last Indiana Jones is currently under investigation for crimes against humanity, while his other recent films (including the Brandon Fraser weepfest Crossover and the recent rom-com Morning Glory) haven't set the box office on fire. If they're going to insist on making another Indiana Jones, a cool cameo in Zombieland 2 would certainly sucker me into paying to see it. Anthony Hopkins would also make for a fun cameo, I suppose, but wouldn't ya rather see Ford getting the love?
