What do you get when you cross a microscopic extraterrestrial organism with military arrogance and a greedy logging company with genetically altered trees? You get tonight’s double zombie feature on Chiller TV.
Severed: Forest of the Dead pits loggers against tree activists against zombies in this gorish pseudo zombie flick. The loggers are paid to deforest the area and the activists are there to stop them. Yet neither side knows that the logging company has been injecting the roots of the trees with a bio-engineered serum to increase their growth. It isn’t until a chainsaw mishap that we learn the sap from the trees turns people into zombies. The loggers and activists must work together to survive in this woodsy kill or be eaten spin on the genre.
Evilution is a cautionary tale of how the U.S. military’s quest for the ultimate weapon can go horribly wrong in the blink of an eye. The discovery of a miniscule life form with the power to resurrect the dead has scientists tampering with the extraterrestrial organism to create a literal army of undead soldiers. The results are even deadlier as the resurrected soldiers turn against all mankind including their makers. When the organism escapes it’s up to a small band of survivors to stop them.
While each one of these movies is an hour and a half of your life you won’t get back, you can at least make it more enjoyable with a few cocktails. Everything is better with cocktails. Especially bad acting, cheesy one-liners and bad zombie make-up. Cheers.
