Zombies have attacked Montana, according to anonymous pranksters who hacked the Great Falls emergency system. During a pancake commercial break on Monday, Feb. 11, 2013, the Emergency Alert System of Great Falls on Monday transmitted the following unusual emergency message:
“Civil authorities in your area have reported that the bodies of the dead are rising from their graves and attacking the living.”
The hackers also inserted a voice-over claiming that it was very dangerous to approach these walking dead bodies. By Tuesday morning, news outlets as far and wide as WPTV in West Palm Beach, Florida and The Guardian, one of Britain's more serious newspapers, were reporting on the practical joke.
Fortunately, it is not really the end of the world. KRTV was quick to deny that the zombie apocalypse was happening in Montana:
“Someone apparently hacked into the Emergency Alert System and announced on KRTV and the CW that there was an emergency in several Montana counties.
This message did not originate from KRTV, and there is no emergency.”
According to reports, at least four calls were made to Great Falls Police Department to discover whether there really was a zombie attack going on in Montana. The zombie alert affected KRTV, the local CBS affiliate, and the CW. No zombies or hackers have currently been apprehended in Montana.
