Zoanette Johnson: ‘The Lion King’ inspires ‘American Idol’ contestant (Video)

A Feb. 28 Pioneer Press report calls “American Idol” contestant Zoanette Johnson “one of the most polarizing contestants” that the hit singing reality television show has ever heard. For her hit performance during the Feb. 27 Las Vegas round, the former Anoka High School student and rising “American Idol” contestant took inspiration from “The Lion King.”

According to the Inquisitr, Johnson nailed a performance of Elton John's “The Circle of Life” from “The Lion King” in a manner that may have given the singer front runner status on the show.

The Pioneer Press reports that judges Keith Urban, Nicki Minaj and Randy Jackson rushed to give her a standing ovation. While Mariah Carey was not part of the standing ovation crowd, the Inquisitr says she was very impressed, telling the rising star that her spirit is “too big to be contained.”

Twitter was reportedly on fire after the stirring performance, with reaction ranging from the “best ‘Idol’ contestant ever” to “others scratching their heads wondering how she had gotten so far in the competition,” according to the Pioneer Press.
