One of the hottest things to hit the tourist trade in decades – ziplining presents even the most mild mannered travelers with an undeniable sense of adventure while still giving die-hard daredevils a high level of thrill. Strapped in tight with a safety helmet and gloves, this is perhaps one of the safest ways to get a bird’s eye view of Georgia’s scenic landscape as you tiptoe through the treetops. With the recent launch of several new zipline adventures near Metro Atlanta, daycationers, staycationers, and vacationers alike can all take part in the fun!
- North Georgia Canopy Tours: This treetop adventure is located in Lula, Georgia and features three exciting tours to choose from – The Adventure Tour, The Premium Adventure Tour, and the Sky Bridge Tour. Tours vary in difficulty and length from 2 to 3+ hours – offering a variety of zip lines, sky bridges, nature walks, and rappels. All tours conclude with a thrilling finale – a 695-foot dual zip over the Hilltop Pond in front of the Observation Deck. Children must be 10 or older and weigh more than 70 pounds to take part in this activity.
- Zipline Tours at Historic Banning Mills: Located in Whitesburg, Georgia, Banning Mills presents visitors with a number of zipline adventures to choose from – the Forest and Woodland Canopy Tours for Level 1 zipliners (must be 8 and up, weighing 50 lbs or more); the Flight Pattern Canopy Tours for Level 2 zipliners (must be 8 and up, weighing 90 lbs or more); the Flight Pattern PLUS for Level 3 zipliners; the EXTREME Zipline Canopy Tour for Level 4 zipliners; and the ALL DAY RUSH Canopy Tour for Level 5 zipliners. Visit the website to find out which category you fit in, but keep in mind tours range in length from 1 ½ to 8 hours. If you plan to play all day and stay all night, accommodations are onsite at the Country Inn and cabins.
- Lake Lanier Canopy Tours: With three amazing tours to choose from – The Lakeside Tour, The Legacy Tour, and the PineIsle Tour – this zipline adventure in the heart of Lake Lanier Islands Resort offers unforgettable views of Lake Sidney Lanier and the beautiful natural scenery that surrounds it. Tours last anywhere from 2 to 4 hours, and are open to kids 8 and up – weighing 50 or more pounds. Kids over 12 who AREN’T afraid of the dark might get a kick out of Legacy Nights – a zipline tour under the light of the moon led by two highly trained Canopy Tour Guides. - Treetop Quest: Set on the grounds of the Gwinnett Environmental & Heritage Center, Treetop Quest is jam-packed with more than 70 obstacles as zipliners zip, soar, and swing at heights of up to 55 feet off the ground. Ages 4 to 99 are welcome to take part in Treetop Quest. The Chick Pea course is recommended for ages 4 to 6, the Chirpy on a Branch discovery course is great for ages 7 and up, the Swing in the Trees course is ideal for families with kids 8 and up, and the Head in the Clouds course is terrific for more athletically inclined families with kids 12 and up. Your Place in the Sun is likely the highest and most challenging course, and is only open to participants who are 12 and above with a minimum height of 4’6”.
