Ziyi, who is probably best known for her roles in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Memoirs of a Geisha will team up with director Jan De Bont (Tomb Raider 1 &2) to create a live-action version of the Mulan story.

Mulan, a character borrowed by Disney, is actually 6th century mythological heroine who first appears in the Chinese poem "Ballad of Mulan." As she does in the Disney story, Mulan joins an all-male army, though it is unclear whether she is an historical figure, fictional character, or allegory.

At the moment, the new Mulan film is being independently financed. However, given the fair popularity of Ziyi in the U.S., we'll likely get a theater release. Stay tuned for more news!
