'Zero Dark Thirty' took top spot at the box office

Box Office Mojo has released this weekend’s numbers today, and a potential Oscar winner took the top spot.

Zero Dark Thirty” came in first with $24 million. With an A- Cinema Score, and the Oscar buzz, it is sure to cross the $100 million mark before it leaves theaters.

In second place, with a 9% Rotten Tomatoes score, is “A Haunted House” (which I warned everyone not to see). The “film” (if you can call it that) took in $18.8 million, and should end its run with about $40 million making it a “hit” (low budget). Hopefully there aren’t going to be more of these horrible movies.

In third was another disappointing movie, “Gangster Squad,” which took in about $16.7 million.

Django Unchained” lashed onto the fourth spot with $11.1 million, and a $125 million domestic take.

The overrated, but Oscar nominated, “Les Miserables” took fifth with $10.1 million, and the title of fifth highest-grossing musical ever at $119.2 million.

So far we are off to a rocky start for 2013 with some terrible films, but next week brings us “Mama,” “Broken City,” and “The Last Stand” (all of which I am really looking forward to).
