Zerbie Sanders falls asleep on field during Florida State game Saturday (video)

During Saturday’s Florida State game, Zerbie Sanders does something (or lack of something) on the field that no one can completely understand. This is one of the funniest sports videos ever and yet, no one seems to know exactly what happened.  It appears that Zerbie Sanders from Florida State fell asleep on the field for this whole play. He never moves. The other 21 players on the field move around him.

Zebrie Sanders is an offensive lineman and a sophomore at Florida State. No one has reported on what happened or asked him what happened during the game.

The internet buzz on this video is hot because it just happened yesterday, and because it is really funny. Is Zerbie Sanders sleeping?  See video below.

In my honest opinion, it seems that Sanders has had a Petit Mal or Absence Seizure, which is not in the least bit funny, but if you're not considering the horrible cause, I guess it truly could be construed as a little funny. It does make you think about what is actually happening to these guys' brains in the name of football. Horrible.

Good Lord, I thought that this had been explained pretty well by now. Coach Trickett (and, really, good football technique in general) requires that an offensive lineman not move until the snap count is completed or if they think a defensive member is offsides (in which case the count wouldn't be complete anyway). In this case, there was obviously a mistake made; it looks like the center snapped early (maybe someone thought there was an offsides when there wasn't), but given the early snap Sanders is technically doing exactly what he was trained to do: not move. Granted, once he figured out that it wasn't actually a penalty he should have probably done something, but to say that "no one seems to know exactly what happened," that he "fell asleep," or that it was a "horrible" result of a seizure is just ignorant and flat out incorrect.

Obviously, the writer of this article either has never watched FSU play the past two years or just doesn't pay attention. FSU runs this play at least once a game I would say. The whole 0-line remains in its stance to draw the defense offside and does not move during the "free play". Since no penalty was called, Sanders should probably have left his stance, but you can't blame him for executing how he was coached.

Perhaps it's because of my lack of knowledge in college football, and only follow the NFL, but isn't it still in the offensive line's best interests to still play out the play, in case it still goes in the offense's favor? Let's say, had the offensive line actually DID protect the quarterback leading to a touchdown pass, even if there was an offsides penalty, they'd decline it and rule it a touchdown... is there something in college football I'm not aware of that says a coach cannot decline a penalty if the outcome is favorable?
