Zenkaikon 2011 Recap: Vic Mignona Panel

Zenkaikon, King of Prussia, the Scanticon Hotel and Convention Center. March 18 to March 20, 2011. Vic Mignogna did a public Q&A panel on himself, where things were heading, and what he had been up to as of late.  Vic Mignogna, besides being a voice actor for countless Anime, is also a professional songwriter and has done traditional acting. The panel felt more like a fan appreciation ceremony, with Vic Mignogna saying several times “This is for the fans.” He talked about faith being a large portion of his life; he spoke about an upcoming Full Metal Alchemist movie which he described as being “Steampunky”, and discussed several of the other roles he’s played over the years. He thanked his Risible Rangers fan group, and commented on the fantastic costumes he saw at the convention. At one point, Vic Mignogna actually pointed to a taller individual in an “Edward Elric” costume. Edward Elric being one of his well known roles, and being known for being exceptionally short, Vic Mignogna commented, “It’s Ed’s Dream self.” After he was done discussing his work, Vic Mignogna took questions from the varying fans in the room. He actually took the time to sing varying songs with the Fans, and help them surprise their friends with phone calls where they would be actually talking with Vic Mignogna. After all was said and done, Vic Mignogna showed a fan film that he made with the rest of the voiceover cast of Full Metal Alchemist that had him as a fan of Full Metal Alchemist becoming Edward Elric. He had shown it at other conventions years ago, but was told by Funimation that he could not show it further, as it would risk copyright issues with the original writers and artists of Full Metal Alchemist. However, he’d gotten the right to show it again with permission from several groups. He made the audience promise, “Don’t tape this, please! Or I won’t be able to show it again!” In the end, Vic Mignogna hosted a wonderful panel catering to the fans, and a fan of his work can be told in no uncertain terms to try and find other panels hosted by Vic Mignogna.
