For some true Zen-like pampering head south-of-the-border to the Viceroy Hotel Zihuatanejo where pampering takes on new meaning in a nearly pristine bay-front setting attended by beach butlers who cater to your every need—from food to pampering--while you recline on an oh so cushy lounger under a shady palapa.
“On our extensive beachfront, on gorgeous palm-fringed La Ropa beach, guests are pampered by beach butlers and enjoy comfortable daybeds and loungers under personal palapas,” said Martin Kipping, general manager. “Now, we’ve added an exciting new spa dimension to our beach experience. What better place to enjoy a massage than our relaxing environment by the Pacific and the sounds of the waves.”
Yours truly has enjoyed a heavenly beach-front massage fanned by balmy breezes and scented with seductive scents from the sea when it was the original Villa del Sol, a lovely little paradise catering to couples and discerning travelers. We haven’t been back since Viceroy Hotels took over the property, but have heard only good reviews (and we’re planning a return soon). We’re especially looking forward to experiencing the new Spa Palapa, which is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., serves a treatment room where guests can enjoy a menu of massage therapies, from Swedish, sports, aromatherapy and reflexology to the resort’s new signature ‘Pre-Hispanic Healing Massage’ that incorporates ancient medicinal herbs to promote renewal, soothe and energize the body. They also offer 15-minute mini treatments for the back, head, feet or hands.
A Eden-esque enclave on Mexico’s Pacific coast, the two-story, 46-suite Viceroy Zihuatanejo sits setps from one of the country’s most beautiful and pristine beaches, Playa La Ropa, on tranquil Zihuatanejo Bay.
