Nintendo had a pair of “The Legend of Zelda” announcements Wednesday during a new Nintendo Direct broadcast. There are two games in the series coming: one is a remake and the other is an all new entry.
Producer Eiji Aonuma and Nintendo president Saturo Iwata revealed that “The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker" is coming to the Wii U this fall as an HD remake. Aside from all new modern visuals, The “Windwaker” game experience is receiving a tune up as well. The Wii U Gamepad can be used for Off-TV play and Miiverse will be supported too.
A brand new “The Legend of Zelda” game is coming sometime after “Windwaker” but it will be a while before Nintendo can make a reveal due to the amount of work involved. Aonuma did say that they are rethinking the conventions of “The Legend of Zelda” such as completing dungeons in a certain order and playing by yourself. The implication here is that the series could take a more open-world approach with some kind of multiplayer.
