One Direction's Zayn Malik and Little Mix's Perrie Edwards plan to get married sometime in late 2014, according to Malik's mother, Tricia. On Dec. 20, 2013, Tricia Malik told the BBC: "Perrie is a lovely girl and I get on really well with her. They're thinking of the end of next year, although no date has yet been set yet."

Some media reports have also claimed that Malik and Edwards might get married in 2015.

One Direction will be spending most of 2014 on the group's "Where We Are" world tour of stadiums. Little Mix's touring schedule in 2014 isn't as time-consuming. The group has announced tour dates in North America (as the opening act for Demi Lovato) and the United Kingdom (a headlining tour) that will take place in the first half of 2014.

Tricia Malik also mentioned in her BBC interview that the couple will be spending Christmas 2013 in London together with their families: "I will cook the dinner. Perrie and her mother will be there and we'll open presents, play games and stuff our faces."

Tricia Malik still lives in Bradford, England, where Zayn was raised with his three sisters. She added: "If they have children, I wouldn't like to be so far away from them. I would really like to still be part of their lives."

As previously reported, Zayn Malik and Edwards got engaged in August 2013. The Daily Mirror broke the story of the engagement. A record-company spokesperson for One Direction later confirmed the news to People by commenting: "Zayn and Perrie are engaged, but any further detail regarding their relationship is private." The couple got engaged on Aug. 18, 2013, according to the Daily Mirror.

It's the first time that two singers from "The X Factor" U.K. have gotten engaged to each other. Malik and Edwards (who are both 20 years old) began dating in April 2012.

One Direction came third place on "The X Factor" U.K. in 2010.

In 2011, Little Mix became the first group to win on "The X Factor" U.K.

In a One Direction interview with Capital FM on Aug, 21, 2013, Malik commented on his engagement to Edwards, as a he gave a "thumbs up" sign: "It's cool. We're really happy. It's cool."

In their interviews since the engagement, Malik and Edwards have both said that they have not made any definite wedding plans yet, although Edwards has mentioned that she wants to wear a vintage dress and if she could choose anyone to sing at the wedding, it would be former Journey lead vocalist Steve Perry.

An unnamed source told the Daily Mirror about the circumstances of the engagement: “It’s one of the first weekends they’ve spent with each other, as they’ve both been on tours with their bands. He wanted to wait for the perfect moment. All her band mates were at V Festival, and she couldn’t wait to tell them. They’re all really excited for her, as the rest of One Direction are for Zayn.”

Edwards was Malik's date at the world premiere of the 3-D documentary "One Direction: This Is Us" in London on Aug. 20, 2013. (The movie opens in U.K. cinemas on Aug. 29, 2013, and in U.S and Canadian cinemas on Aug. 30, 2013.) As previously reported, One Direction will also attend the movie's New York City premiere on Aug. 26, 2013. Edwards may or may not be with Malik at that premiere, since Little Mix is performing at a music festival in Liverpool, England, on Aug. 24, 2013.

As previously reported, One Direction's girlfriends and other women they've dated are not in the movie.

At the London premiere of "One Direction: This Is Us," Edwards was seen wearing a three-stone diamond ring on her engagement finger, which led to questions about whether or not she is engaged to Malik. Now that Malik and Edwards have publicly confirmed that they are engaged, the couple (whom fans have nicknamed "Zerrie") will now be constantly be asked about their wedding plans.

Edwards tweeted on Aug. 21, 2013: “Aww the trends. #Zerrie #CongratsZaynandPerrie."

Malik and Edwards were also together at the 2013 Teen Choice Awards in Los Angeles on Aug. 11. (One Direction was a winner and performer on the show. Little Mix was a presenter.) Although Edwards and Malik did not walk in the celebrity arrivals line together, they sat next to each other during the awards show, where they looked like a happy couple and were showing public displays of affection, such as holding hands.

Edwards' mother, Debbie Duffy, commented on the engagement in an interview with Real radio on Aug. 21, 2013: "It's true. They got engaged on Sunday [Aug. 18] and it was absolutely lovely. It's wonderful because Zayn is absolutely gorgeous, and Perrie loves him to pieces. It's just perfect. They get on so well together. They understand each other. It's fabulous. He did the traditional of asking me and asking his mum and dad. It was fabulous."

As for when the couple will get married, Duffy commented: "I said, 'How’s long’s this going to be?' And she said, 'I don’t want a long engagement but I don’t want a quick one either.' I mean, obviously they've got so much to do. They'll wait till 2014, 2015 ... One Direction are doing so much and Little Mix are the same. They're out of the country most the time doing their promotion for this, that and the other, so it's just unbelievable. But I think they will eventually get together and set the [wedding] date."

One Direction (a male quintet) and Little Mix (a female quartet) were both formed in the same way. The members of each group originally auditioned for "The X Factor" U.K. as solo singers, but the show rejected them as solo singers, and they were put together in a group. One Direction's "X Factor' mentor was Simon Cowell, while Little Mix's "X Factor" mentor was Tulisa Contostavlos. (Contostavlos was fired from "The X Factor" U.K. in 2013.)

One Direction and Little Mix are both signed to Syco Music (which is co-owned by Cowell and Sony Music) and are both represented by London-based company Modest! Management.

In January 2013, Malik and Edwards went through a sex scandal when an Australian waitress named Courtney "CJ" Webb told The Sun that she had a one-night stand with Malik at his home while Edwards was away on a Little Mix tour. Edwards and Malik have not publicly commented on this infidelity allegation. Whatever problems the scandal caused, the couple overcame these problems since they have been seen looking very happy together.

Malik commented to Teen Vogue about their relationship: "We both understand each other. I'm really proud Little Mix just got number four on the charts and beat the Spice Girls' record ... It always seems that she's somewhere in the world when I'm somewhere else. But we're making it work."

In June 2013, Malik got a huge tattoo on his right arm of a young woman who looks like Edwards. The tattoo artist told MTV News that Malik said that the tattoo was inspired by Edwards. Fans had mixed reactions to the tattoo. Most people said that Malik will eventually regret getting the tattoo if he and Edwards break up.

And, of course, there are people who think that if Malik and Edwards do get married, the odds are that their marriage will end in divorce, especially they get married under the age of 25. Most celebrities who get married under age 25 eventually get divorced, especially if they are famous at the time of the marriage.

Malik's parents and Edwards' parents are both divorced, which also increases the odds of a Malik/Edwards divorce if they get married, since studies haves shown that children of divorced or unmarried parents are more likely to get divorced. If you factor in the high divorce rate for celebrities in their first marriages, then the marriage seems doomed to end in divorce. Only time will tell if Malik and Edwards actually get married to each other and stay married to each other for the rest of their lives.

Edwards' brother Johnny Edwards tweeted on Aug. 21, 2013: “Right. My sister and Zayn ARE Engaged! It’s true! You seen the ring on the finger and all that Jazz! CONGRATS!!!”

Malik and Edwards each tweeted a thank you to people who have been congratulating them on their engagement.

Malik tweeted: "Never been more happy in my life!," Malik wrote to his followers. "Thank you to everyone that has been so lovely about my engagement to my beautiful fiancé ! Big love z X"

Edwards tweeted: ""I've also never felt so happy! :)," Edwards posted on the Little Mix Twitter page. "Thank you everyone for being so kind and supportive! Im a lucky girl! xD I Love you all! Perrie."
