One Direction's Zayn Malik has been rocked by a cheating scandal. In the issue dated January 27, 2013, The Sun published an exclusive interview with 21-year-old Australian waitress Courtney "CJ" Webb, who says that she had a one-night stand with Malik while he has been dating Perrie Edwards of Little Mix. Malik, 20, and Edwards, 19, went public with their romance in April 2012.
Webb says that she had sex with Malik at his London home on January 23, 2013, while Edwards was away on Little Mix's U.K. tour, which launched on January 24, 2013. Malik allegedly told Webb that he didn't have a girlfriend, but Webb says that she realized that he lied to her after they had sex and she saw some of Edwards' belongings in Malik's home.
Webb vented to The Sun about what she says is Malik's deliberate dishonesty to her and Edwards: "He's an absolute s**t. How dare he — not only to me but to Perrie?"
Malik, Edwards and their representatives have not commented on Webb's allegations.
The Daily Mail paraphrased Webb's interview by reporting:
"She then added that she believed Zayn has strayed on more than one occasion. She insists she was unaware who he was or that he had a girlfriend, revealing that after a few hours he asked his friend to make sure she stayed. As soon as they were alone together CJ then claims the X Factor star pounced on before they enjoyed intercourse. Although things went awry when Malik allegedly asked her to leave and tried calling her a taxi straight after.
"But they soon fell asleep, which is when she took a photo of him and his recognizable tattoos lying in the bed. She also claims she then realized he may have a girlfriend after seeing a number of Perrie's belongings dotted around his room, including fake eyelashes and make-up. But he allegedly told her: 'Don't worry about her she's on tour.'"
Webb says that she met Malik through Leon Anderson, who invited her and two friends to a small party at Malik's house. She told The Sun: "I'm not a One Direction fan. I don't follow what they are up to. So when it clicked that he had a girlfriend, I got more and more angry. I definitely don't think it's the first time he's done this. I feel sorry for Perrie. She doesn't know this is going on. It's wrong and it has to stop."
According to Webb, Zayn was the one who made the first move: “Zayn looked me in the eyes and said, ‘You’re so hot, you’re so fit, you’re beautiful.' We sat on his bed and before I could even say anything he started snogging my face off, kissing me passionately. It just snowballed from there. We fooled around, then had sex. It was amazing.”
Webb also described Malik's house in great detail: "It was amazing. When you came into the reception there's a big cylinder with a spiral staircase. He had remote control cars and skateboards floating around the house to play with. There was a 'Star Wars' mask that one of the girls tried on and there was a life-size Kung Fu Panda under his stairs. It was a fun house."
She continued: "He was a really nice guy. We were talking about music and playing songs on his iPad. He even gave me a maroon jumper when I was cold. He was drinking vodka and we were having a laugh. I asked him if he had a girlfriend, and he said he didn't. He said he wanted to enjoy being 20. Zayn made me feel special and like he wanted me in his bed, but after sex he just said 'Get your clothes on, I'll get you a taxi.'"
Webb also said: “As soon as we finished having sex he wanted me out of the house and out of the way. His behavior was disgusting. He started pulling the cab firm app up on his phone. He treated me like an object. I was absolutely shattered. We had literally just finished having sex, but he was like, ‘Cool, done — see you later.' It was horrible. I didn’t argue and I was all ready to go. But while waiting for the cab we both passed out and fell asleep.”
After spending the night with Malik, Webb said she left the next morning by taxi: “There was no acknowledgement, no goodbye or see you later. He had got what he wanted and that was it. There were no feelings of remorse or guilt from him at all."
Webb also said that even with all of his fame, fortune and people who love him, she thinks that Malik isn't really happy: “He’s got everything but he doesn’t seem happy at all. He told me he sings for his family, his mum’s got a house now, he owns his own home and he said his family were the only thing he needs around him. It’s a shame he doesn’t feel the same way about his girlfriend.”
This isn't the first time that Malik has been accused of being unfaithful to Edwards. In 2012, gossip blogger Perez Hilton spread rumors that Malik cheated on Edwards. Malik adamantly denied those rumors. In one of the videos posted on Hilton's website, Malik was secretly recorded through a hotel room peephole, and he (or someone who sounds like him) is heard telling a young woman to come back to his hotel room. It was never verified when the video was recorded, so it was possible that it happened when Malik was unattached and before he began dating Edwards.
Malik and Edwards often talk to the media about their relationship. In an October 2012 interview with Now magazine, Malik commented on how he and Edwards deal with groupies and fans who want to date him: "I guess there's a sense of jealousy because I have a girlfriend now while I was a bit of a 'bad boy' before."
The interviewer asked, "So the fans know you're off-limits now? "
Malik replied, "Exactly. Some of them don't like it."
He also said that because he and Edwards have very busy careers, they came to an agreement when they first began dating about how to make their relationship work: "When I'm away at work, she understands because it's the business. Our jobs are full-on every single hour of the day. She gets that because she has to do exactly the same thing. We have a lot of trust and understanding between us. I think that's why our relationship works ...
"We had an understanding from the start. I told her: 'This is my job, this is what's going to happen, stories will come out. Do you still want to be with me?' That was established from the start and after that it was about me and her."
In an August 2012 interview with The Sun, Edwards commented on how she and Malik handle their relationship: "You have to trust each other. Me and Zayn are really happy. We see each other quite a lot, the only time we don’t is when he’s in America. It’s really hard. But I trust him. It does get hard when you don’t see each other. It does make it more special when you do see each other though.
“You just have to make sure you call and text each other all the time and tell each other what you’ve done each day and stuff. It’s when you don’t talk to someone that you start missing them. As far as his fans go, there’s always going to be one or two bad comments, but you’ve just got to ignore it. About one in 100 are bad ones. I just read all the good ones — most people are really happy that we’re in a relationship and happy.”
In a December 2012 interview with Capital FM, Little Mix band mates Jesy Neslon and Jade Thirlwall said that Little Mix approved of Edwards and Malik's relationship.
Nelson commented, "He's absolutely smitten with her. He loves her to pieces. I've never seen a boy love a girl as much as he loves her."
Thirlwall added: "He's really down-to-earth. He's really normal."
Infidelity may have been an issue that Malik had in his romantic relationship with singer Rebecca Ferguson, a 25-year-old single mother of two children. Malik and Ferguson dated from March to July 2011. The former couple reportedly had a bitter breakup, and they have said in interviews that they are longer in contact with each other.
Malik, Ferguson and Edwards are all former "X Factor" U.K. contestants who are signed to Syco Music, the record company co-owned by "The X Factor" executive producer Simon Cowell and Sony Music. In 2010, Ferguson came in second place, and One Direction came in third place on the show. In 2011, Little Mix became the first group to win on "The X Factor" U.K.
When Ferguson and Malik were dating in 2011, she told the now-defunct tabloid News of the World that Malik pursued her for months before they got together, that they were "in love," and that they began dating shortly after they completed "The X Factor" U.K. tour that year.
In more recent interviews, Ferguson has hinted that Malik cheated on her when they were a couple. She told the Daily Mirror that she is taking a break from dating because she is tired of all of her boyfriends being unfaithful to her. Ferguson's 2012 single "Backtrack" is about a cheating lover, and she said she wrote the song based on a real-life boyfriend she had. Ferguson told New! magazine that she will never publicly disclose the reasons why she and Malik broke up because she has "stayed classy" about it.
In interviews, Malik has not commented on rumors that he and Ferguson broke up because he cheated on her. He told Now magazine that his relationship with Ferguson was a "mistake" and a "weird situation" and that it ended "badly."
February 1, 2013 update: The Daily Mirror reports that Webb has worked as a stripper. She danced at the London strip club Platinum Lace for five months. An unnamed "friend" of Webb's is quoted in the article as saying about Webb's encounter with Malik: “I think she would have seen it as a challenge. Whenever someone famous comes into the club, she’ll always head for them. Flirting and mingling with all the football players; she’s always on the prowl. Outside of work, she doesn’t hide what she does. I think she’s quite proud of herself. I feel sorry for Zayn. She definitely would have known who he was. If she didn’t know he was a celebrity, why did she take a picture? It doesn’t make any sense.”
