HRH The Duchess of Cornwall hosted an event today for Britain’s equestrian Olympic and Paralympic medal winners. The group, of course, included the silver medal winning eventing team including the Duchess’ niece, Zara Phillips. Camilla hosted the reception in her role as patron of the British Equestrian Federation. She has previously owned and bred many horses and shares the interest with Zara. At the event the Olympian said:
“Obviously horses are part of our family and horses have been a part of her family as well. It is something that she loves and it is very easy when you have the same interests.”
During the London Olympics the Duchess was a common sight at Greenwich Park rooting on the equestrian athletes. The British eventing team included Zara, William Fox-Pitt, Mary King, Tina Cook and Nicola Wilson, all of which were in attendance at the event. British riders won a total of five medals and surpassed Britain’s previous best Olympics performance.
