Zara Phillips' horse wins in debut

While Zara Phillips is best known as a world-class eventing champion, she has also been working as a trainer and now is seeing some big successes.  This weekend, Zara’s trainee Aubrey De Vere was victorious in his first outing at Chaddersley Corbett.  Willing take the horse out for his inaugural run was a jockey friend of Zara’s, Tom David.  After the race Tom commented to “Horse and Country” that Zara does all the training herself and that the Queen’s granddaughter has a fair amount of skill in this area.  This shouldn’t come as a surprise Zara, after all, was raised around horses.  Her father, Captain Mark Phillips, is a silver and gold Olympic medalist as part of the British three-day eventing team.  He currently serves as the Chef d'Equipe of the United States eventing team.  Zara’s mother, HRH the Princess Royal, is a three time Olympic medal winner in both team and individual eventing.  One can expect that when her active riding days are over, Zara will continue to be engaged in the equestrian world.  Whether it is training or breeding, with results like these the future looks bright.
