Zack Snyder to direct a 'Star Wars' film

Vulture has learned some exciting news today about the new “Star Wars” films on the horizon.

Not only is there a new trilogy coming that acts as a sequel to the original trilogy, but there are going to be even more films (with a new film every 2-3 years) coming as well.

It is now being reported that Zack Snyder (“Man of Steel”) will develop and direct a “Star Wars” film that will take place after “Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi,” and run parallel to the upcoming trilogy.

While it will not be a “bridge” movie it could provide material for other films in the future.

The new film is said to be based off of Akira Kurosawa’s “Seven Samurai” (or “The Magnificent Seven” for those unfamiliar with it) in which seven samurai are recruited to protect a small village from bandits.

I’m assuming (and desperately hoping) that they are going to use this similar structure and somehow have Jedi (or people trained with a light saber anyway) protecting them.

I think using Zack Snyder is a fantastic way to show a different side of “Star Wars” as well.

Snyder brings some stunning visuals to every project, and he always has well crafted fight choreography, and proved in “Watchmen” that he is capable of telling a compelling story as well. BRING IT ON!
