After waiting 214 selections, the Golden Bears finally had their second player selected in the 2009 NFL Draft.
Star outside linebacker Zack Follett was finally taken with the 26th pick of the seventh round by the Detroit Lions.
He waited far too long to be selected.
Mel Kiper said he was shocked that Follett was still available at that spot. Bear Backers and most fans of the Pac-10 were probably scratching their heads as well.
There is more than just Follett to scratch your head about also. At the time of his selection, San Jose State was leading Cal with three players selected in the draft.
That's right Bear Backers, the San Jose State Spartans, a team that wouldn't last more than a quarter against the Golden Bears.
11 former Trojans had already been selected, including their kicker. Oregon State has had seven players taken at the time of this writing.
We won't get it into it now, but the California Golden Bears may need to take a long look at the promotion of their departing players.
The Detroit Lions have cleaned house since the end of last season when they went 0-16. Former Kansas City Chiefs head coach and defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham will be Follett's new coordinator with the Lions. Cunningham has employed both the 3-4 and 4-3 defenses during his career, so it's not known what they'll run next year.
Follett was hoping to enter the NFL playing the WILL position in a 3-4.
*UPDATE*
Cameron Morrah was selected by the Seattle Seahawks the 248th pick of the draft. The pick was a compensatory selection. Greg Knapp will be his offensive coordinator, so Morrah will be expected to get better with blocking for the run. Knapp has been instrumental in the progress with Oakland Raiders tight end Zach Miller.

What a monster great pick that is a jersey I would be proud to wear look forward to seeing zack knock some people out I love the pick
I was shocked how far he fell before he was picked.
Stunned this guy wasn't taken early. I am not a Cal fan but this dude can play football. Funny how the front office suits make draft day blunders year after year by over analyzing player data.
