Bay-Lakes Council has two new Eagle Scouts: Zach Poirer and Chris Laes.
Zach Poirer, received his Eagle award earlier this month and created a book entitled, "C is for Community," -a collection of writings from fellow scouts that have had to cope with dealing with cancer victims within their families, friends or themselves. It is a positive collection of writings to let others know that being diagnosed with cancer doesn't necessarily mean a death sentence or that cancer patients are alone with the battle to survive this disease. Zach's book has strong support from his community and the book has been published and is given out by the area hospitals to those youth that may need to that extra support to cope with cancer issues.
Chris Laes also received his Eagle and has worked the waterfront area at Camp Bear Paw, where he was also instrumental in assisting in the first live broadcast at that camp on Scouting Radio, an Internet radio show dedicated to the scouting movement which broadcasts shows throughout the world. This program recorded life and activities in camp as they happened. Scouts from Wateringbury, England, presented materials to this broadcast as they visited this scout camp during the centennial year of the Boy Scouts of America.
Chris is also the son of Pat Laes, who has distinguished himself within the Council as he received this year's Silver Beaver award and is also an Eagle Scout.
