There is no doubt that millions of fans are eagerly awaiting the latest installment of the “Star Wars” franchise. However, according to a Feb 2 report by The Huffington Post, Zac Efron is in talks with studio executives about starring in the latest trilogy. While this report has stirred a tremendous amount of controversy among the film’s die hard fans, there is little influence fans can exert over Disney.

Originally, reports were surfacing that the studio was reaching out to three possible candidates for the movies. Ryan Gosling, Leonardo DiCaprio and Zac Efron were considered the leading candidates to star in the final “Star Wars” trilogy. However, Leonardo’s commitment to “Robotech” prevent him from working on the project, and Ryan Gosling’s involvement was dismissed by his agent. As a result, it is increasingly looking like Efron will play a starring role in the latest movies.

Currently, “Star Wars: Episode VII” is scheduled to be release in the middle of December 2015.

Is Disney setting up the latest installment for failure? How do you think fans would react to Efron playing a central role in the film?
