Zac Brown was criticizing "My Kind of Night" not Luke Bryan as an artist, and was quick to explain this on Twitter Sept. 14. In a recent interview Brown said that "My Kind of Night” is the “worst song I’ve ever heard.” Zac Brown is just one of many country music singer/songwriters who have come out against the similarity of the songs that receive repeated air play on country radio.
Veteran country music singer/songwriters Alan Jackson , George Strait and Gary Allan, as well as newcomer Kasey Musgraves have spoken out about the state of country music today. None are happy with the direction in which modern country has taken and believe that country has lost its heart.
In the interview Zac Brown said:
“You can look and see some of the same songwriters on every one of the songs. There’s been like 10 number one songs in the last two or three years that have been written by the same people and it’s the exact same words, just arranged different ways.”
“That’s My Kind of Night” was written by Dallas Davison. Chris DeStefano and Ashley Gorley also received songwriting credits. “Honky Tonk Badonka Donk,” recorded by Trace Adkins, is another popular song written by Davidson, who has written several of today’s top country songs.
