Zac Brown, Clay Cook, James Franco set for Daytona 500 pre-race events

The Grammy-award winning Zac Brown Band will perform the Budweiser Pre-Race Show leading up to the start of the Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway Feb. 24, the speedway announced.

The Zac Brown Band will perform several songs prior to the start of the 55th annual race, which kicks off the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season and the biggest stock car race in the world.

Zac Brown Band member and Southern Ground recording artist Clay Cook will sing the National Anthem. Cook has also recorded and toured with John Mayer, Sugarland, The Marshall Tucker Band, Shawn Mullins and as a solo artist.

James Franco, star of the Disney fantastical adventure “Oz The Great and Powerful,” which is scheduled for release on March 8, will serve as Grand Marshal. Franco will give the command for the drivers to start their engines, the speedway also announced.

He will also attend the drivers meeting and ride in a pace car prior to the start.

Although the Daytona 500 is the first race that awards driver points, many of the NASCAR Sprint Cup stars will hit the track at Daytona Feb. 16 for the Sprint Unlimited, a race that will feature pole winners from last year. Past winners of the race who are still active drivers are also eligible.

Neither reigning champion Brad Keselowski nor runner-up Clint Bowyer is eligible for the Sprint Unlimited, which will feature an interactive format with fans deciding several factors including how pit stops will be handled, if drivers are eliminated after segments and the fire suit that Miss Sprint Cup will wear.
