According to the Canadian Press on Sunday, team Canada's executive hockey director Steve Yzerman of Cranbrook, British Columbia will not be the architect for team Canada at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang.

Yzerman had been the executive hockey director for team Canada at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver and the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi. Team Canada won the Olympic gold medal each time. He also played for team Canada and won an Olympic gold medal at the 2002 Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City.

There continues to be speculation that the National Hockey League has concerns with the current agreement with the International Ice Hockey Federation and the International Olympic Committee and may not want to participate at further Olympic Winter Games. However due to the high level of excitement Canadians showed yesterday morning during the Canadian men's gold medal winning hockey victory, let us hope the world's best remain at the Olympic Winter Games forever.

For now, Yzerman will be focused on his general manager duties in Tampa Bay. The Lightning are having a fantastic season as they are third place in the Eastern Conference with 71 points.
