Yuri Bashmet, Tatiana Samouil perform at Sochi Olympic Closing Ceremony

At the Sochi Olympics Closing Ceremony the music came alive for the viewers. The world was treated to a performance with violinists Yuri Bashmet and Tatiana Samouil. According to the New York Times the two accomplished musicians were playing Schnittkeā€™s piece Polka. It was an astounding piece of music at the Sochi Olympics and for the world to have the chance to hear the two perform together was nothing short of wonderful.

So who is Yuri Bashmet? He is a Russian conductor, violinist, and violist known around the world. Without question he is one of the best violinists in Russia. Being involved in the Closing Ceremony had to be a distinct honor for the musician.

There was another famous artist during the Closing Cereony performance who also is well known in Russia, Tatiana Samouil. Who is Tatiana Samouil? Well another Russian violinist with roots in the rich Russian tradition. Born into a musical St. Petersburg family, Tatiana took up the violin at the age of six. Her music is heard around the world as she performs internationally.

It was wonderful to hear Yuri Bashmet and Tatiana Samouil performing at the Olympics Closing Ceremony. It is rare to see the two violinists together on such a big international stage, but it definitely is delightful.
