There is no lack of talented female vocalist making waves right now. Lliana La Haves, Laura Mvula, BANKS, Lorde, they have all been making their own marks. Yuna is another artists that is challenging the status quo. The beautiful Malaysian songstress' voice is mellow and unassuming, lulling you into a sense of calm. Her voice would have been perfect for a track on Zero 7's Simple Things.

And though you can compare her to a number of artists, Yuna does not quite fit into any one box. At times she lets the soul flow, and at others she is all about the folk. Having worked with a variety of producers, from Michael Einziger to Pharell Williams, her penchant for jumping from genre to genre was well supported. And helped her self-titled debut album receive rave reviews.

She is currently on tour with Jarell Perry opening. Perry, while more R&B than Yuna, is a great choice to open. The up-and-coming artist falls into the realm of alternative R&B, similar to Frank Ocean. He hasn't broken out just yet, but he has potential.

Tonight they play a sold out show at U Street Music Hall. If you didn't get tickets you are going to miss an amazing show.
