This column is proud to announce that the winner of the Spoon of Destiny at the Yuletide Maker's Faire and Chilly Chili Cook Off and Elf March this year was Jerry Calhoun. Congratulations to the victor. He is now the proud possessor of the honor of the current Chili Champion.
Jerry won out against fierce competition. It was close, but one vote decided who would go home with the Spoon and who would be awarded a Fruitcake for second place. His chorizo based Taco Chili won the day. Complete with corn, sour cream, and fried strips of corn, it was a big hit.
Jerry also had double duty at the Faire, as he filled the role of Holly King to the Faerie Queen. Happy faces abounded as he handed out gifts under the Yule Tree and gave the Opening Blessings. Vendors received his joyous energy and sparkling personality as he toured the event, all the while engaging in tame trash talking about his plans to attain the Spoon.
While the entertainment in the Main Room was consisting of singalongs and story time, he was busily staffing the Children's Activity and Craft Room, and stirring his award winning fare. Glitter and grins were mixed into the convivial event.
You may know Jerry also as one of the owners of The Smokey Crystal, LLC. Located in Woodhaven, they are a hub for downriver activity in the Pagan community. It is there that he plans to hang the trophy spoon for all to see who should wish. The Stanley Spoon of Destiny is currently held in trust by the joint committee formed by Pagan Pride Detroit and The Great Lakes Witchs Council.
Well done, Jerry, well done.
