Yuengling Brewery, the oldest brewery in America, was the site of a Tampa, Florida fire Saturday, leaving the building with $1 million in damages. According to the Inquisitr on Oct. 27, over 60 firefighters fought the blaze which surrounded the building in flames.
When the firefighters tried to enter the building, dense black smoke and heat from the flames held them at bay on the fifth story level. This is when the firefighters were evacuated and resumed fighting the fire from the exterior of the structure.
It took about an hour to get the Yuengling Brewery fire under control. Everyone was evacuated without injury, with both workers and firefighters safely exited the building. One firefighter was injured while fighting the fire and taken to the hospital. His injuries are said to be “minor.”
The Yuengling Brewery is the oldest brewery in the U.S., it was the brewery that belonged to the Schlitz family until it was sold to the Yuengling Company back in 1999. The cause of the fire is unknown, but fire officials do not expect foul play.
