Lady Gaga, who won eight VMA awards at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards Sept. 12, wore a controversial meat dress made from real meat, says designer Franc Fernandez.
"[The dress was made from] indeed real meat from my family butcher,” Fernandez confirmed to MTV, adding it was made from a “matambre” steak from Argentina.
While Gaga insisted she meant no disrespect to vegetarians in donning the garish outfit, she was condemned by PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) for implicitly encouraging meat consumption.
PETA founder Ingrid Newkirk says the outfit was not only unattractive but unsanitary, saying: "Meat is the decomposing flesh of an abused animal who didn't want to die, and after being under the TV lights it would smell like the rotting flesh that it is and likely be crawling with maggots. Not too attractive, really."
Similarly, butchers and scientists have come forward slamming Gaga's outfit. Says one butcher: "The lack of refrigeration and the lights at the VMAs would cause it to be stinking bad. She’s in the lights: It’s cooking."
Dr. Shawki Ibrahim, chief scientific advisor for Grow Green Industries, added, “The dress definitely puts her at an E.coli risk if she had a cut on her skin. But otherwise, it’s just the stink factor.”
PETA was already upset with Gaga for wearing a meat bikini on the Sept. 2010 cover of Men's Vogue Japan, saying:
"No matter how beautifully it is presented, flesh from a tortured animal is flesh from a tortured animal. Meat represents bloody violence and suffering, so if that's the look they were going for, they achieved it."

Ugh! Thats just gross! Of course I have to ask why when there are so many choices?
Fair enough if it was fake meat but real meat is just wasteful. Shame on Gaga.
