Ypsilanti's Community Records to run children's booth at Michigan Roots Jamboree today, Saturday

Ypsilanti-based educational organization Community Records will run a children's tent, with activities ranging from dress-up photos to instrument making, at the Michigan Roots Jamboree festival in Ypsilanti's Riverside Park today and Saturday.

Community Records founders call their organization "mission-based"; the mission is to use music to build relationships within the community. Established in late 2006, the staff run song-writing workshops in various area after-school programs and help adults and children record their own, original music.

Founding officer Jesse Morgan said that "music is a tool, not an end goal." The organization's goal is to bring people together and to explore social justice issues.
