YouTube, Google, Wolfgang's Vault join in to celebrate John Lennon's birthday

Both YouTube and Google are becoming part of the celebration of John Lennon's 70th birthday, which would have been Saturday.

Yoko Ono and EMI have partnered with YouTube to set up a special home page with video tributes to John Lennon for his 70th birthday, it was announced Friday. The page, at www.youtube.com/johnlennon, features tributes from celebrities including Ringo Starr, Brian Wilson, Aerosmith, the Jonas Brothers, Jeff Bridges, Tony Hawk, Bret Michaels, DMC (Run-DMC), Brandon Boyd (Incubus), Bill Walton and others. A video by Yoko Ono asks people around the world to submit their own tributes.

.“I hope you’ll join me and a family of peace around the world to celebrate this very special day,” said Yoko Ono in a statement. “Send in your own video tribute to YouTube, and we will share in keeping John’s memory alive.”

YouTube has also created a global Yoodle of the YouTube logo, to be launched in 25 countries at 9 p.m. PT on Oct. 8th and to remain live for 24 hours. The Yoodle will be synced to cover Lennon’s October 9th birthday in all regions.

Also, Google has created its first-ever video doodle, which presents sketched animation featuring John Lennon’s self-portrait set to an audio clip of Lennon’s iconic song, "Imagine." It was created by Google doodler Mike Dutton with Yoko Ono's approval.

The Google doodle will be live on Google homepages all over the world starting noon on Oct. 8th and all day Oct. 9th until midnight.

In addition, Wolfgang's Vault, which streams vintage concert recordings, is featuring a page on its site devoted to John Lennon-related audio, with rare interviews and five songs from the 1972 One to One Concert. It is also featuring a playlist with several covers of John Lennon songs. Tracks include Rod Stewart's superb work on "Jealous Guy," Joan Baez's version of "Imagine," Elton John singing "Give Peace a Chance," Buddy Rich's version of "Norwegian Wood" and Ringo Starr doing a live version of "With a Little Help From My Friends."

I wonder if Paul will have something on his website.... or if it will be a private moment for him. It would be me, but in reality,I would have to say something, even if it was a call to Cynthia/Julian and Yoko/Sean. I know he will be on his mind, even if it is just a minute.
