Sometimes students get bored in school. That is a given for most from time to time. However, they seem to respond when their peers teach them. This has begun a new trend in teaching especially when it comes to working with youth with disabilities. There is a belief that youth will learn more if information is given to them from their peers who in a sense have been there, done that.
The Pennsylvania Youth Leadership Network (PYLN) have developed a series of webinars that teachers and parents can attend with students every month to learn about different topics that may be of interest to students with disabilities. In October, they are focusing their webinar on Centers for Independent Living and what they can do for youth. Centers are not often known to the community in generally and in the past the youth populations that have accessed services at centers has been small. This webinar aims to increase awareness.
