Youth swim competitions planned in Maryland for June 29

The Coastal Aquatics Swim Team Open Water Summer Shore Swim takes place on the Nanticoke River at Bivalve, MD on Sunday, June 29, 2014. This is the first time the event takes place. The Coastal Aquatics Swim Club of Salisbury, Maryland is sponsoring the event.

The swim starts at 8:30 a.m. EST and will run (or should we say swim) till about noon. Organizers expect about 200 pre-adolescent and adolescent swimmers to compete on half mile, mile and two-mile open water courses along Cedar Hill Marina Park. All routes end at the Cedar Hill Marina beach.

Maryland Swimming Inc. sanctioned the races and will provide watercraft to accompany the participants. The Coast Guard plans to restrict boating in the area from approximately 8 a.m. EST until 12:30 p.m. EST to accommodate the swimmers.

Swimmers must arrive for check-in by 8 a.m. At 9:30, the half-mile swim starts for ages 10 and under. At 10:15 two one-mile races begin for those 11 and 12 and 13 and 14. At 11, the two-mile race begins for those 15 and older. All participants must be registered with USA Swimming.

The entry fee is $30. Deadline for registering is June 24.
