Hundreds of artists from the boroughs and far beyond are preparing to pull out their best moves for the CMJ Music Marathon across New York City.
The tradition of music discovery at CMJ has attracted the industry's most important listening ears to help break artists like Arcade Fire, Justice and The Killers in past years.
This years acts already have some buzz -- Betty Who has become an internet favorite since her single, "Somebody Loves You" was featured in a viral flash mob proposal. The freshly turned 22-year-old will play three sets during CMJ.
Lucius, a Brooklyn-based indie pop group fronted by a duetting lady vocals, will play on the first night of the festival, October 15.
Other notable acts on opening night include SWF, a dirty wailing hippie with vintage vibes and hearty crooning tones, and Three 6 Mafia's Gangsta Boo.
Weaved throughout showcases at more than 80 venues, there are panels and workshops scheduled over the five days to explore topics confronting today's music professionals.
