Today, more than ever, marriages are facing difficulty and the threat of divorce. With the turmoil of our nation’s economy, unemployment, natural disasters and domestic violence on the rise, it’s no wonder that the American divorce rate is on the rise.
According to divorcerate.org, in 2010 the divorce rate for first marriages was at 41% while divorce rates for second and third marriages was 60% and 73%. According to the Family Dynamic Institute, a family is torn apart by divorce every 45 seconds.
Although many have turned to their faith for marital mediation, many fail to utilize a resource that they may not even know exist. Marriage ministries are nothing new. Many churches have them and it is possible that your church or a church in your community has one.
Struggling couples don’t have to go it alone. Not to be confused with marriage counseling, marriage ministries provide a safe and encouraging environment for husbands and wives to express themselves with the mediation of a minister or clergyman of the church. The mediator will facilitate discussions and educate couples often times using Christian principals. Couples will learn how to communicate in effective and productive ways while learning alternatives to separation or divorce.
