Your caregiver speaks spanish

Many parents hire caregivers whose first language of choice is Spanish. There are both benefits and challenges to having a caregiver for your child who speaks Spanish. The benefit is that young children have the opportunity to learn a second language in their daily interaction with the caregiver. Some of the challenges might be in the area of safety concerns and the caregiver's ability to plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities for the child or children in their care.

The Family Partnership Center that serves families in both Sarasota and Manatee counties recognizes that there are many families who have a caregiver whose first language is Spanish. The organization is offering an interactive playgroup for Spanish-speaking caregivers and the children that they care for ages 0-5 years of age beginning on January 8 and continuing until May 28 from 10-11 a.m. Each group session will use puppets, parachutes, and other interactive tools to teach fun and creative activities that are developmentally appropriate. Musical Motion will be offered at Tillman Full service Family Center. Health and safety tips for caregivers will be of special interest. Motor skills development activities will also be a part of the sessions. There is a one-time fee of $10 that will cover the entire session. Walk-ins for each session are welcome.
