Youngstown rapist escapes due to judicial incompetence

Youngstown, OH - A 30 year old Youngstown man facing 13 years in prison on a plea agreement has escaped after being allowed 3 weeks at home prior to his sentence commencing.

Lexter Williams and 3 others, burst into a Livingston St home on January 22, 2009, demanding money and valuables from the occupants. While the others held the men at gunpoint, Williams, who was also armed, took a female into the basement and raped her.

Williams was charged with 5 counts of Aggravated Robbery, 4 counts of Kidnapping, and 1 count each of Rape and Having Weapons While Under Disability, which could have gotten him an 86 year prison term.

In a plea agreement, Williams was to serve 2 consecutive 10 year terms and a 13 year consecutive gun specification term. The Rape was reduced to Gross Sexual Imposition.

Perhaps the most striking part of the plea agreement was that the prosecutor and the judge agreed to allow Williams 3 weeks at home before formally being sentenced on Monday, November 22. He has been in the Mahoning County Jail since his arrest in January 2009. The agreement said that should Williams break the terms of his temporary release or commit another crime while awaiting his sentencing, he could face the maximum 86-year sentence.

A house arrest monitor was strapped to Williams' ankle and he was to report to Community Corrections Association daily. He failed to report this past Thursday and it was later found that he had cut the ankle monitor off. His whereabouts are currently unknown.

Williams has a long criminal record, beginning when he was 19 years old. His record shows multiple misdemeanor and felony drug offenses, as well as Attempted Murder, 2 Carrying a Concealed Weapon charges, and Having Weapons While Under Disability.

If you see Williams, or know where he is, call 911 or the Youngstown Police Department 330-742-8929.

Let me start by saying, there are three sides to every story: yours, their's & the truth!! Readers shouldn't believe everythiing they read. Shouldn't the headline read, "Alleged Rapist", especially since the rape kit came back negative, by three different sources ? I don't condone wrong doing, but the media didn't reveal that the proposed victims were involved in illegal activity of selling drugs, which was the initial reason for the perps to visit them, to buy drugs. Does Youngstown Police Dept. have selective folks to call criminals, or just the ones that make the poor choice of robbinhg them? Lexter Williams, obviously made some wrong decisions, in his life, but 93 1/2 years!! That's utterly ridiculous, yes, since there are consequences for your actions, charge him, but murderers don't get as much time! No one has the right to judge but "GOD", especially when they don't have all the facts, I only pray that "GOD" has the final say, in this situation, since the media has surely railroaded & crusified this man in the headlines, as if this was the only case of crime, in the town> no wonder, he ran, knowing that he wouldn't get a fair trial because of adverse publicity plastered all over the media & Headlines. Not to mention, the judge is trying to make an example & redeem herself, at hi expense, since the media crusified her too. People shouldn't form opinions based on half-truth, they should get all the facts, not just what the media allows to go to print!

Alleged doesn't apply when you plead guilty. You are found guilty.

He ran after pleading guilty and knowing he was going to be sentenced to 13 years.

I agree 93 1/2 years is ridiculous. 93 years would have been enough.

He did this to himself and belongs where he is, away from decent people.

And regardless whether the victims were creeps or not has no bearings on what this animal did.
