Young The Giant played a sold out show at the Majestic in Detroit on Tuesday. In the past year they’ve played MTV’s Unplugged, the VMA’s, Austin City Limits and more. They’ve literally blown up almost overnight.

The band hails from sunny California and the members that make up this new music sensation are Sameer Gadhia on vocals, Jacob Tilley on guitar, Eric Cannata on guitar/vocals, Payam Doostzadeh on bass and Francois Comtois on drums.

I had the chance to see them perform last year at the Pike Room in Pontiac. If you’re not familiar with the venue it holds maybe about 50 people. Fast forward to 2012 where they’re playing a sold out show at the Majestic, you can see that they’ve made some great strides.

Opening up the show for them was Ohio based Walk The Moon, they had a sound that complimented Young The Giant’s music well. Walk The Moon played a great cover of David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance” and had the crowd swaying and dancing to the beat.

Young The Giant came out on stage and opened up with the song “I Got.” As soon as they stepped onstage they were greeted by a roar of appreciation from the crowd. They played an amazing set sounding just as good as they do on their album if not better.

Songs played included their popular hits “Cough Syrup” and “My Body,” plus most the songs off of their self-titled album along with some new songs. One of their new songs that they played was called “What You Get” which is an enticing look at what’s to come with a new album in the works.

If you haven’t had the chance to check out the music of this band, you definitely should. They have a sound that appeals to the masses. It floats in waves of melodic rock, with the entrancing vocals of Sameer Gadhia and the intrinsic talent of all the band members that make up this musical outfit.
