Lovington Police Department detectives state they are investigating several "persons of interest" in the egregious case of two month old puppies doused with a caustic acid and leaving them to die reported krqe.com.
According to Lovington Police Detective David Miranda, the pair of pit bull puppies were safely in their kennels when the culprit entered the family's yard, removed the puppies from their enclosures and poured the chemicals all over them.
'It's the kind of injury that is literally eating the fur off the dog. It's eating the skin away," explained the detective.
The dog owners, and their two young children, were devastated over the horrible deed and the thought that someone would intentionally make puppies suffer. Sadly, the puppies had to be euthanized on Wednesday due to the seriousness of their injuries.
A $1,000 reward is now being offered by the community to help find the person(s) responsible. Both residents and authorities have seen a pattern of this egregious behavior in the past few months. On July 24, Stormy, a gentle black and white pit bull was also stolen from his yard and chemicals had been poured over his body.
