The young sister of a possible Taliban commander was told to strap a bomb to her body and walk into a town in Afghanistan.

Fortunately, the bomb never went off.

The BBC reported on Jan 6 that the trigger button was not detonated and the girl was detained by authorities.

Afghanistan’s Interior Ministry spokesperson confirmed that a soldier saw the approximately 10-year-old girl in the Helmand province on Sunday.

She allegedly was coerced by her brother to wear a vest of explosives and attack border police.

NDTV reported that the girl’s name is Spozhmay and that she seemed confused prior to soldiers seeing her in the area.

The young girl was taken to Lashkar Gah after the bomb did not go off.

Child and teen suicide bombers have been used by the Taliban for years.

President Hamid Karzai pardoned several teens in 2007 who were caught trying the same tactics as the young girl.

A girl younger than Spozhmay was tricked in 2011 into carrying a bomb into her town near a police car.

Taliban insurgents set off the bomb with a remote detonator. The blast killed the young girl and her body was taken to a security check point according to the New York Times.
